About Francisca Sánchez
Francisca Sánchez is a poet, educator, and former English Learner. She began her 37-year career in education as a high school teacher and since then has served in a variety of leadership positions, including as Associate Superintendent for Hayward Unified School District and Chief Academic Officer for San Francisco Unified School District. In recognition of her continuing contributions to education, she was named 2002 Inland Empire Educator of the Year, and selected as the recipient of ACSA’s 2005 State Valuing Diversity Award and CABE’s 2006 Vision Award.
Over the years, she has collaborated on a number of projects with her son, visual artist and interior designer Nicolás Sánchez. When I Dream | Cuando Sueño is her first fiction book and her first publishing project in partnership with Nicolás. Currently, she is CEO of Provocative Practice™, an educational consulting organization, and President Elect of the California Association for Bilingual Education. About Nicolás Sánchez
Nicolás Gabriel Sánchez was named after two illustrious authors – Nicolás Guillén and Gabriel García Márquez. He has lived up to this creative legacy through his own work as a visual artist and interior designer. His organization, Urban Arts, Inc., features his gritty and often stylized artwork that has a strong social justice perspective. Taking great care in setting up a platform in each of his pieces of artwork, Nicolás thrives on igniting an emotion from those who see his work. White or black, it’s his way of perhaps helping thrust dialog to what otherwise may be thought but never openly discussed.
In addition to his featured work, he has created original artwork for San Bernardino County Office of Education, San Francisco Unified School District, the California County Superintendents’ Arts Initiative, and the California Association for Bilingual Education. He also enjoys bringing an artistic sensibility into people’s homes through his interior design work, using space, color, texture, and individualism to create customized living environments that reflect the owners’ interests and personalities.
Nicolás lives with his wife and children in Patterson, CA.
