When Josephine is not training teachers or attending conferences, she is studying the bilingual brain with her two sons who are neuroscience majors or spending time with her daughter and husband.

Historically, the education system has focused on methods and programs. The worst enemy of multilingual learners are one size fits all approaches that do not take the time to center its purpose and understanding on who they are serving, rather they consider the students and the diversity they bring to the classroom as the problem.Culturally Sustaining Sheltered Instruction proposes that we get to really know our students, see their different cultures and languages as a tool for learning and add new culture, new language, and new knowledge in all the languages use to learn and in all content areas.
