Building Upon Students' Linguistic Assets Toward Biliteracy: A One-Year, Month-by-Month Plan to Implement a Dual Language Program: A Systems Approach

So, you’ve decided to start an elementary dual language immersion (DLI) program. Congratulations! As will be shared in this book, a DLI program provides many benefits, both academic and linguistic, to all students enrolled, and especially for students who are learning English as a second or subsequent language while at the same time learning academic content in English. This book embraces a collaborative, systems-based approach to planning a DLI program. It is recommended that the district take one full academic year (with some preparation prior to the start of the academic year) to plan for and implement a strong, successful, and sustainable elementary DLI program.
