Dr. Frederick L. Uy is a mathematics educator, researcher, and leader in teacher preparation. He earned his Ed.D. in Mathematics Education from Columbia University, after completing both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics. Before entering higher education, he began his career as a K–12 mathematics teacher, a foundation that shaped his lifelong work in advancing mathematics instruction and teacher training.
He currently serves as Director of Educator Preparation & Public School Programs and Co-Director of the Center for the Advancement of Instruction in Quantitative Reasoning (CAIQR) at the California State University Office of the Chancellor. Previously, he was a professor and chair of the Division of Curriculum & Instruction at Cal State Los Angeles. Dr. Uy’s scholarship and professional service focus on strengthening mathematics pedagogy, preparing future teachers, and supporting initiatives in curriculum, assessment, and quantitative reasoning across the CSU system. Recognized for his leadership, he has worked with school districts, testing agencies, publishers, and professional organizations, and continues to contribute to national and international conversations on mathematics education.
