Dr. Tania Hogan is an educational leader, researcher, and advocate dedicated to advancing bilingual education, equity, and community-rooted teaching practices. She currently serves as the Executive Director of the BUENO Center for Multicultural Education at the University of Colorado Boulder, where she leads with a justice-centered approach that recognizes bilingualism as a source of identity, resilience, and cultural wealth. 

 

A proud native Spanish speaker and former multilingual learner from Acapulco, Mexico, Dr. Hogan’s lived experiences shape her commitment to transforming educational systems for Latine, immigrant, Indigenous, and multilingual communities. Her work centers on ensuring that these students are not only supported, but meaningfully affirmed, centered, and celebrated within schools.

 

Dr. Hogan’s previous roles include serving as Director of Undergraduate Student Success and Affiliate Faculty at the University of Colorado Denver, as well as more than 16 years in Denver Public Schools as a bilingual ELA educator, reading interventionist, Literacy and Cultural Studies Facilitator, and teacher leader. 

 

Her research focuses on newcomer family strengths, storytelling, culturally responsive educational technology, and professional development that shifts school systems toward language equity. She is also known for her public talk, “From Silence to Advocacy,” where she shares her journey as an emergent bilingual learner and her commitment to empowering bilingual students.
