Dr. Vanessa Mangual Ruiz is an experienced educator with a distinguished career spanning over two decades in bilingual and dual-language education. With a strong foundation in pedagogy, Dr. vanessa Mangual Ruiz has dedicated 15 years to teaching all subjects in Spanish to students from Pre-K through sixth grade, fostering bilingualism and academic excellence.

 

Expanding beyond the classroom, Dr. Vanessa Mangual Ruiz has served in various leadership roles, including four years as an Instructional District Specialist, where they provided curriculum support and instructional coaching to educators. This expertise led to three years as a School Assistant Principal, followed by another three years as a School Principal, overseeing academic programs, faculty development, and student success initiatives.

Further advancing their impact, Dr. Vanessa Mangual Ruiz has contributed at the district level as a Director of Dual Language Programs for two years, shaping policy and program implementation to enhance bilingual education access and equity. With her commitment to academic excellence extends to higher education, where she have taught the course "Foundations of Dual Language Programs" at the university level, equipping future educators with essential knowledge and strategies.

 

As a National Biliteracy Consultant with Velázquez Press and Benchmark Education, Dr. Vanessa Mangual Ruiz has played a pivotal role in professional learning for teachers across various educational settings, promoting best practices in biliteracy and language acquisition.

 

Dr. Vanessa Mangual Ruiz holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, a Master’s degree in Montessori Education, a Master’s degree in School Administration, and a Doctorate in School Leadership and Curriculum Instruction. Additionally, she have completed 18 credits at the Master’s level in Second Language Acquisition, further enriching their expertise in language development and bilingual education.

 

Through extensive experience in teaching, leadership, and program development, Dr. Vanessa Mangual Ruiz remains committed to advancing bilingual education and empowering students and educators to thrive in linguistically diverse environments.

Introduction to Academic Spanish Language in the Classroom

The first course in the academy, Introduction to Academic Spanish in the Classroom, is a three-hour virtual workshop delivered in Spanish. All of the necessary materials for the entire certification program are included with registration for this course. This introductory course is also a required prerequisite for all other courses in the academy.

An understanding of the structure and history of the Spanish language empowers educators to more effectively teach Spanish language and literacy skills with confidence. The Velázquez Academic Spanish Language Academy for Educators offers a series of courses designed to have an immediate and lasting impact on teaching practices in your classroom or context. Participants in this certification program dig deep into Spanish spelling rules, common mistakes, syllable structure, and the use of accents. Participants engage in activities to promote foundational literacy skills in Spanish as well as activities that develop students’ reading and writing skills in later grades. Sociocultural aspects of the Spanish language, such as regional variations and historical influences, are also explored.
