Primary Language Support

Communication and understanding are keys to success or failure for any newcomer. The US Department of Education released a Newcomer tool kit in June 2016, which highlights the importance of providing primary language support, especially for content classrooms. Newcomer Professional Development

Dr. Ryan Rumpf has built a reputation as a passionate, equity-centered educator and leader - transforming newcomer education through innovation, collaboration and a whole-child approach. He has over 20 years of teaching and administrative experience in Colorado, Missouri, and Ho Chi Minh City having worked at the elementary, middle and school levels as well as in rural, suburban, urban and private international schools. 

 

He served as the Director of English Language Development (ELD) and World Language Curriculum at the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education during the design and implementation of Missouri's ESSA plan, led the effort to design and adopt the Missouri Seal of Biliteracy and developed several guidance documents and policy suggestions for school districts across Missouri. He coordinated ELD programs for over 10 years and was the founding administrator of a newcomer program and welcome center in the Midwest.
